To determine the rate of DNA synthesis in cells, a radioactive nucleotide into DNA will reveal the rate of DNA synthesis.

It%26#039;s either T or U. I have the same homework and I said Uracil because primase starts off the new DNA strand. You could measure the amount of time it takes for another primer.



It would only work on the lagging strand because Okazaki Fragments make up it and RNA primers are needed to start each fragment. You could measure how long it takes for each Okazaki to be polymerized by the distances between the two uracil (the last on the first primer and the first on the last)

Question 1: is U used for DNA synthesis? If not what is used instead?



Question 2: do you happen to want to differentiate between RNA (mRNA or tRNA) synthesis and DNA synthesis?



If the answer to question 2 is yes, then the answer to question 1 should help you to determine which nucleotide is different between DNA and RNA
